Following the success of our map competition back in 2019, Totnes Heritage Trust has joined forces with The East Gate Bookshop to run a short story competition for adults and children, based around the Totnes Map in St Mary’s Church.

And the prizes will be presented by none other than celebrated author Nicholas Evans, whose novel The Horse Whisperer is one of the bestselling books of all time.

The competition, which launches today, is split into age categories. These are 18+, 12-17 years, and 11 and under. Winners and runners-up in each category will receive book vouchers, which will be presented by Nicholas at an awards ceremony during a special evening opening at the bookshop in the autumn.

Take a look at the wonderful map, either on the church floor, or at www.totnesmaps.net, read its story, written by trustee Georgina Allen, and be inspired in readiness for turning your creative energies into writing a short story with your very own vision of Totnes – past, present, future or fantasy.

Click here to download the guidelines and here to download an entry form to print off. Or, if you’d prefer, you can pick up hard copies of both at The East Gate Bookshop, 62 Fore Street, where you can also submit your entries.

You can also submit your entry online here, or by emailing it to totnesheritage@gmail.com.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 20, 2021.
